Instructed by Junko Shikata, she has studied calligraphy at the Nichirenji Temple in San Francisco since 1987, learning under Archbishop Nitten Ishida and later Ms. Keigetsu Kikuchi. Following their retirement and passing, she returned to the temple in 2018 to serve as the calligraphy instructor.
