About One City Day
Join us for One City Day — San Francisco’s first-ever citywide day of service! On Saturday, July 11th, San Franciscans across all 11 districts will come together to volunteer, connect, and show up for the city we love. Whether you’re gardening, cleaning up a neighborhood, packing supplies, or creating art, there’s the perfect project for all ages and abilities.
About This Project
Japantown is one of only three remaining J-towns in the United States. It is a cultural anchor, a home for seniors, and a destination for small businesses.
By participating, you aren't just picking up trash; you are protecting the legacy of this neighborhood, supporting our local merchant's recovery, and showing the rest of San Francisco what "One City" looks like when we care for our shared spaces.
Based on our past clean-ups, this event is perfect for: Families: A great way for kids to learn about civic responsibility and environmental stewardship. Students: High schoolers looking for community service hours (we provide sign-offs!). Corporate & Community Groups: A fantastic team-building opportunity for local offices or clubs. Long-time Residents & Newcomers: Whether you’ve lived here for 40 years or 4 days, this is the best way to meet your neighbors.
What to Expect
When you get to your project site, your project host will welcome volunteers, go over the day’s activities, and provide a quick safety overview.
Volunteers will work alongside neighbors, community organizations, and city partners for approximately two hours.
There will be an opportunity to connect with fellow volunteers after your project wraps.
What to Wear/Bring
Dress in layers and wear closed-toe shoes.
Bring sunscreen and a reusable water bottle.
Additional supplies (gloves, tools, bags, etc.) will be provided by your project host unless otherwise notified.
