Shimenawa Decoration Workshop @ The Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California

  • The Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California 1840 Sutter Street San Francisco, CA, 94115 United States (map)

Join us at the Center as our staff will teach the community how to create your very own Shimenawa! Shimenawa are a circular rice straw rope that’s often displayed on cars or in front of houses on New Year’s Day in Japan to ward off evil spirits and bring in the New Year! Registration includes one kit of supplies needed, to design your very own unique shimenawa to take home and enjoy as a way to celebrate the New Year.

Everyone is welcome to join us as no experience required!
